Grocery store owner in court for selling schedule six medication

A 31-year-old business owner will appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 June 2022, facing a charge of contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act of 1965. He was arrested on Thursday, 23 June 2022 by the Secunda-based South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) of the Hawks together with Secunda Crime Prevention.

The joint team swiftly acted on information received about cash and carry grocery store selling schedule 4 medication without the necessary license. The said medication is supposed to be sold by a pharmacist upon presentation of a prescription from a qualified doctor. The authorities seized medication to the value of R40 000.00 and the suspect was arrested.
