A businessman and a bystander were shot during a robbery at a general dealer in Mhlasini in Everest Heights – KZN.
Residents contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 19:22 requesting assistance after multiple shots were fired outside the store. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the complainant and while on the route were informed that two people had been shot.
On arrival, it was established that the suspects entered the business and held up the owner and his partner. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash before they fired multiple shots. One of the victims was struck in the leg while his partner was locked in a room.
A 25-year-old bystander who was assisting his brother with construction at his home across the road heard the shots and flashed his torch at the store and the suspect fired shots in his direction. He was struck on his left femur.
The robbers then sped off in a grey Toyota Avanza. The getaway vehicle was not fitted with registration plates.
The businessman was transported privately to the hospital prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers while the injured bystander was stabilised on the scene by Medics before being transported to a medical facility by ambulance. The victims were unable to confirm how many suspects were involved in the robbery.
Seven spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.
