Mob justice for robbery suspect in Parkgate

A 20-year-old man was severely assaulted after he was apprehended by the community following a robbery in Parkgate – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene after receiving reports of a man being assaulted by a mob. On arrival, it was established that the injured male had earlier robbed a female for her handbag. The suspect was armed with a firearm. He fled on foot when he was pursued and apprehended by onlookers.

The stolen handbag and the suspect’s firearm which was confirmed to be a toy were recovered in his possession. The crowd which grew to approximately 30 people bound the suspect’s hands and legs with rope before they beat him with an assortment of weapons including metal pipes and whips.

The crowd complained that they were fed up with escalating crime in the area and bayed for the suspect’s blood.
