A 47-year-old male was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Zakariya Park, south of Johannesburg.
On Sunday 31 July 2022, officers received information regarding an Orange BMW M2 which was stolen at Lobelia Avenue in Weltevredenpark, Roodepoort.
The owner of the vehicle had allegedly left the vehicle at a garage in Weltevredenpark for someone to pick it up. Instead of the designated person taking the vehicle, unknown males took the vehicle without the owner knowing.
The owner was notified of his missing vehicle. He immediately activated the vehicle’s tracking device and opened a case of theft at Honeydew SAPS.
Officers went to the garage where the vehicle was stolen to view footage of the culprits, and this gave them a lead to where the vehicle was traveling.
Officers followed the vehicle’s tracking signal, which led them to Zakariya Park. One male fitting the description seen on the footage was found together with the stolen BMW and a White Volkswagen Polo used in the commission of the crime.
The male suspect was immediately arrested and detained at Lenasia South SAPS. He is due to appear in court during the course of the week.
Both vehicles were seized by the officers and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound for verification.
