Police arrest three suspects for business robbery

The police in Mpumalanga are hard at work in an effort to create and maintain a safe environment for all citizens. Three suspects aged between 29 and 31 were arrested by the police at Hendrina yesterday, 15 September 2022 on charges of business robbery.

According to the information, it is said that on the said day at around 10:00, one of the suspects went to a ‘spaza’ shop and bought airtime. He allegedly came back later with another man then drew a firearm. The two allegedly robbed the shop (‘spaza’) owner of an undisclosed amount of cash then tied up the male victim and locked the shop owner inside before they fled the scene with the stolen cash.

Shortly after the robbery, a traffic officer was informed of what had transpired and the officer immediately alerted the police at Hendrina. The members swiftly responded and cornered the three male suspects driving a silver VW Polo belonging to one of the suspects. Police recovered some cash in possession of the suspects and it is believed that the money was allegedly stolen during the said business robbery.

As the investigation continues, police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the alleged robbers and possibly link them with other crimes committed elsewhere.

For now, the three arrested suspects are facing charges of business robbery as well as possession of suspected stolen property hence their court appearance today at Hendrina Magistrate’s Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the role played by the traffic officer as well as the men and women in Blue who are collaboratively working tirelessly to uproot and fight crime in the province. “We are heading towards the right direction and the successes that are achieved should send a stern warning to criminals that their time to terrorize citizens is over” said the General.
