Police launch manhunt after two people shot dead

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the activation of the 72-hour mobilization plan after two men aged between 33 and 35 were shot dead near Cicira Junction, kwa-Dosi locality on Wednesday, 14 September 2022 at about 18:00, in Mthatha.

According to the information, the two deceased were standing next to their car when five male suspects appeared and started firing gunshots at them. The two men died at the scene. It is alleged that members of the community alerted the police who were passing by the crime scene at the time who then started following the direction in which the suspects have fled.

As they were searching for the suspects in the area of Mpheko River, the police were met with gunshots from the nearby bushes. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the police and the suspects and the skirmish left three of the suspects fatally wounded. Two of the five suspects are still at large. A total of five firearms and ammunition were found during the incident.

The motive for the killings has not yet been established, however, two murder cases and three cases of inquest have been registered for investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage, and no injuries were reported on the side of the police.
