The Economic Infrastructure Task Team arrested a 51-year-old suspect who was found in possession of underground cables belonging to a cellular service provider and a rail agency.
On Wednesday, 7 September 2022, members conducted a joint operation with the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers in a bid to fight theft and damage to vital infrastructure. They visited scrap dealers in Delft and conducted compliance inspections. In one of the scrap yards in Belhar Business Park, members found underground cables weighing 180,50 kg with an estimated street value of R30 000.
Further investigation led to the discovery of another illegal scrapyard within the premises. A 51-year-old male suspect was arrested and detained at Belhar and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court once charged.
The same suspect is due to appear in the Bellville Regional court for possession of the suspected stolen property.
In an unrelated incident, on Thursday, 8 September 2022, members confiscated dagga during a search in Tiara Way, Leonsdale. Crime Prevention Unit members searched a house in Leonsdale and found a dagga with a total weight of 2.46 grams in a bedroom. A male suspect was arrested and he will appear in court, once he has been charged.
Meanwhile, Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit members were doing foot patrols when they received a tip-off of drug sales in the area. They acted on the information and busted a 38-year-old male who fitted the description. He had 225 heroine units in his possession.
The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing drugs, he will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s on the mentioned charges.
