The South African National Defence Force members, with their limited resources, are doing wonders in Limpopo Province. Just this past week, the PATRIOTS, from 10 Anti-Aircraft Regiment, led by their erstwhile Officer Commanding, Lieutenant Colonel N.M. Ntsieng, arrested two suspects who were part of a group which was seen with big luggage on their heads crossing the border from Zimbabwe into South Africa illegally. When approached, the suspects dropped their luggage and needless to say, Lieutenant Colonel Ntsieng and his team pursued them whereby they managed to arrest two members.
After going through the luggage, it was discovered that there were sneakers worth R 748 416.00 according to CUSTOMS. The story doesn’t end there! One suspect that managed to escape earlier on, was arrested at CUSTOMS Beitbridge Port of Entry when he tried to claim the loot alleging that the SA National Defence Force took the goods by force. In other operations with the South African Police Service, Traffic Department, Home Affairs as well as Border Management Authority at Musina and Rangani Village near Masisi, firearms worth R 211 448.00 and ammunition valued at R41 800.00 were confiscated. 15 Undocumented persons were arrested and the Iveco bus valued at R382 530.00 which was used to ferry these undocumented persons was impounded by the SA Police Service for aiding and abetting.
At Echo 2 our soldiers confiscated what is called Control L Homonal Contraceptives pills valued at R423 916.00 which were being smuggled into South Africa from Zimbabwe. The suspects dropped their luggage and ran back to Zimbabwe when approached by our soldiers. The pills were handed over to Beitbridge Port Health as dictated by law. At Echo 8, as a result of the Foot & Mouth outbreak in Limpopo province, our soldiers arrested 6 x suspects in the middle of the night who were trying to move livestock valued at R 29 210.00 using the vehicles. They were handed to the members of the Department of Agriculture.
At Confluence, livestock valued at R 1,472, 000.00 was confiscated having been moved from the Zimbabwean side of the border by people who claimed the cattle were theirs. Members of the Department of Agriculture took over for confirmation of Foot & Mouth disease. The last success qualifies for a Hollywood movie; a farmer tipped off the SA National Defence Force members in the area about another farmer, Mr Hannes Lamprecht, that he was harbouring a stolen vehicle which he (Mr Lamprecht) was used for criminal activities around that area. In their wisdom, our soldiers invited the SA Police Service Vehicle Crime Detection Unit. Mr Lamprecht denied vehemently any knowledge of the said vehicle. Our resolute security forces, combed the farm using the 360 degrees method and after persevering against the denial and tantrums thrown at our members by Mr Lamprecht.
The vehicle was found buried in the ground on Mr Lamprecht’s farm. See the photos. The vehicle was confirmed to be a stolen vehicle from Lephalale with a valid Case number. Upon digging deeper into Mr Lamprecht’s farm, our members also found an unlicensed shotgun with ammunition. Needless to say, Mr Lamprecht was arrested immediately for possession of a stolen vehicle and unlicensed firearm as well as its ammunition.
