A 64 year old man’s hands and legs were bound with an extension cord during a home invasion on Sew Drive in Southridge – KZN this afternoon (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene at approximately 18:16 and met with the victim who was freed by a neighbour. He informed Reaction Officers that he was in his yard when he was confronted by a lone suspect who produced a knife and forced him into the house.
The suspect informed the elderly male that two of his accomplices were also in the yard however they were not seen at any stage of the robbery. The victim’s hands and legs were thereafter bound with an extension cord (main picture). The suspect claimed that he knew the man and demanded to know the location of the safe and his firearm. The victim explained that he did not own a firearm when the suspect searched the home for valuables. He stole clothing, a cellphone, a wallet and keys belonging to a Nissan NP200 bakkie. He informed the victim that he would return for a bakkie and two trucks which were parked in the yard before he then locked the door and fled.
The man attempted to free himself from his restraints but was unsuccessful. He called out for assistance however his cries for help were not heard. After nearly three hours and continued screaming he managed to grab the attention of a neighbour who went to his aid and untied him.
The victim was traumatised but not injured.
