Nine Injured In Tractor/Taxi Crash: Oakford – KZN

Nine (9) people were injured in a collision involving a tractor and a minibus taxi on Oakford Road, Oakford – KZN this afternoon (Saturday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from passing motorists and witnesses requesting assistance for the injured. Reaction Officers & RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched and on arrival at approximately 12:09 discovered a 67 year old female trapped in the wreckage. She sustained multiple traumatic injuries. The female was stabilised in the vehicle and was extracted on arrival of Ethekwini Fire Department. Eight other passengers were also injured and were transported to hospital by ambulance.

According to witnesses, the tractor towing a trailer loaded with sugar cane was turning into an unpaved road when the white Toyota Quantum that was approaching from the opposite direction collided into it. The mini bus taxi was allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed at the time of the incident. The force of the impact resulted in the tyres on the tractor breaking off the axles.

The drivers of both vehicles were not injured.
