One person was arrested in Pretoria West by the TMPD Cable theft team on Tuesday 25 October 2022.
The Cable Theft Members were conducting an inspection at a scrap yard and found a bag that contained copper.
The female manager could not account for the copper that was found and was arrested for dealing in copper and possession of suspected stolen copper.
The other two male suspects were arrested in Pretoria North. While the officers were conducting a stop-a-search operation at R566 road, they stopped a white Ford Ranger bakkie and the driver was found in possession of suspected stolen copper. The suspect led them to the owner of a scrapyard who was dealing in copper. Both suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper, dealing in copper, and receiving suspected stolen copper.
Previous arrests that were made by the cable theft unit members have yielded good results, a suspect who was arrested in September at a scrapyard in Bronkhorspruit was recently convicted and sentenced to two years of direct imprisonment and will be deported after serving the sentence. He was charged with possession of the stolen property, contravening the secondhand goods Act and being in the country illegally.
Well done to the team. TMPD will continue to fight crime in the City of Tshwane
