The South African Police Service in Kakamas confirms that the body of the child, found yesterday 21 November 2022 in a veld near Alheit Kakamas, is that of 5-year-old Shane Basson who was reported missing on 05 November 2022.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the girl was allegedly murdered on 04 November 2022 during the afternoon.
On 21 November 2022 at 20:00, a 37-year-old male was arrested at his house in Alheit Kakamas by detectives from Kakamas SAPS.
The suspect will appear in the Kakamas Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder. Police investigations are continuing and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
