Attempted murder suspect arrested in Verulam CBD

A 32-year-old man who attempted to murder an elderly female after he broke into her Trenance Park – KZN home was arrested a short while ago.

On Monday (14/11/2022), the suspect broke into a home on Aspen Link. While stealing valuables, the 73-year-old homeowner returned.

The burglar gagged her with a piece of material and wrapped her in a blanket before he began choking her. He fled after the woman started screaming for assistance.

The victim confirmed that the suspect was known and lived across from her house. It was confirmed that he is a drug addict. He is an accused in a double murder and was released on bail from Westville Prison in January 2022.

News of the attack on the elderly female spread rapidly through the Trenance Park – KZN community.

The suspect became evasive and did not return to his home following the incident.

A member of the public apprehended the sought-after suspect after he was spotted on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD this afternoon.

The man thereafter contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and placed the suspect under arrest.

He is currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
