Zero tolerance for traffic violations this Festive Season in the Eastern Cape

In his address at the 2022 Festive Season Arrive Alive launch earlier today, Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha said:

“During last year’s festive season period, Maletswai (Aliwal North) and its surroundings experienced 12 fatal crashes in December only. In these crashes, our province was robbed of many lives and many people sustained serious injuries. This year, we must all fight to totally reduce that number in this area and the province at large,

“Our study shows that most road crashes are attributed to human behaviour and error which necessitates a tough response by our Law Enforcement Officers,
“Eastern Cape must be known as a NO NONSENSE Province when it comes to dealing with traffic infringements. But in reality, we cannot be able to follow each and every road user throughout their journey,

“We must therefore, through our road safety awareness campaigns instill a sense of responsibility and self-regulation to all people using our roads. Our road safety officers must reach out to all road users in an effort to enhance their knowledge and change their attitude,

“Road safety is a collective responsibility which requires commitment from all of us because road fatalities affect all of us.”
