Two men on Monday, 12 December 2022, appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on charges of common robbery.
The accused court appearance stems from their apprehension on Friday, 09 December 2022. It is alleged that the police in Klerksdorp was called to the scene by a 31-year-old mother, who reported that an unknown suspect grabbed a cell phone from her daughter. It is alleged that the victim was sitting in the front of their vehicle and her daughter was sitting in the back passenger seat, busy on the cell phone, when suddenly an unknown suspect opened the back door of the car, grabbed the phone from the girl and ran towards a vehicle that was parked nearby and the vehicle sped-off.
The complainant asked for help from the security guard and a lookout for the vehicle was given. The vehicle was identified by police at Anderson Street in the Klerksdorp CBD and searched. Police found the robbed cell phone and the two accused, Andrew Itumeleng Kgafane (28) and Nelson Nkululeko Moloantoa (28) were immediately arrested and charged with common robbery.
The duo was remanded in custody for further investigation until their next appearance at the same court on Monday, 19 December 2022. Investigation into the matter continues.
