A 39-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Calcutta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 01 December 2022 after he was arrested by the Hawks Nelspruit-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, White River K9 and MTPA during a search and seizure operation conducted on Wednesday, 30 November 2022 at Cork Trust under Bushbuckridge policing area.
The arrest followed after information about illegal poaching was received. The team proceeded to the identified address where during the search, two elephant tusks were found and seized.
The suspect was arrested and charged under section 22 of the Mpumalanga Nature Conservation Act 10/1998 possession of ivory. The suspect was detained pending his first court appearance on Thursday, 01 December 2022.
