SAPS Kwazakele arrest wanted suspect

One of the most wanted criminals in Kwazakele was arrested during the early hours of this morning, by members of the Kwazakele Task Team and Crime Prevention after a high-speed chase in Zwide

It is alleged that the Kwazakele Task Team members received and followed up on information about the movement of the 25-year-old suspect. Observation duties were held and at about 00:25, the suspect was seen driving a white Nissan NP 200 bakkie. When he noticed the police, he sped off which resulted in a high-speed chase. The crime prevention members provided backup. At the corners of Qeqe and Manana Streets in Zwide, the suspect lost control and crashed onto the pavement. As he tried to escape, he was apprehended.

A 9mm pistol (serial number filed off) with ammunition was found in his possession.

The bakkie was impounded for further investigation.

He is detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and house robbery. He is positively linked to a house robbery that took place in Kwazakele in July 2022.

The suspect is well known and investigators are busy probing his possible link to several cases of house robbery, vehicle hijacking, kidnapping, and attempted murder in the Kwazakele, Bethelsdorp, and Swartkops areas.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata applauded the excellent teamwork by Kwazakele members. ‘It is only a matter of time before we tighten the grip on these criminals. I am convinced that certain communities are targeted by a few criminals who are repeat offenders. We will be working closely with the NPA to ensure that bail is denied and we urge communities to continue to alert the police of criminals operating within their areas,’ added Maj gen Ncata.
