Rivers and dams are still dangerous, warns Mpumalanga police after the body of a 16-year-old boy was retrieved from the dam at Mgobodi

The body of a 16-year-old boy was retrieved from the dam at Mgobodi following the recent floods that have hit hard in the areas of Nkomazi Municipality. SAPS divers and the community are still searching for others who are still missing, suspected to have drowned.

Yesterday, Wednesday 15 February 2023 at about 18:00, the Police from Tonga were called to Mgobodzi after the community members retrieved the body of the young boy from the dam.

According to the information, the boy and his friends went to the dam to cool off. It is alleged that when his friends realized that he was no longer coming out of the water, they went and reported to the elders. Community members managed to retrieve the lifeless body of the boy and then alerted the authorities.

The medical personnel unfortunately certified him dead at the scene.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has taken the opportunity of the unfortunate incidents and warned community members to refrain from getting closer to rivers or dams whenever possible as they are currently full, more so with the rains that were still experiencing recently.
