Anti-Gang Unit apprehends alleged hitmen and confiscate illicit firearms and ammunition

A duo, suspected to be hitmen affiliated to the notorious Terrible Josters gang in Eerste River, are scheduled to appear in the local magistrate’s court tomorrow, 22 March 2023 in connection with an attempted murder that was perpetrated in Kleinvlei earlier this month as well as for the illegal possession of the suspected weapon used in the attack, a Vector 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Members attached to the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit pursued information in connection with the attempted murder whilst conducting tracing operations in the area on Monday evening, 20 March 2023. The information led them to a residence in Heather Park, Eerste River where they first arrested a 22-year-old suspect. They proceeded with the search for the second suspect, 18 years old, who was traced and apprehended at a residence in the same area.

Driven by the quest to build and produce a strong case in court, members followed up on information pertaining to the whereabouts of the weapon used in the attempted murder and proceeded with an extensive search until the early morning hours of the following day. Their efforts proved worthy when they found the 9mm semi-automatic Vector pistol and magazine abandoned in an open field in the vicinity of La Provence Street in Heatherlands, Eerste River. The firearm whose serial number was obliterated was confiscated and handed in as an exhibit. It will be sent for ballistic tests.

The duo is expected to appear in court as soon as they are charged with the attempted murder.

Meanwhile, members performing vehicle checkpoints along the N7 and Koeberg Road near the fire station in Milnerton on 19 and 20 March 2023, arrested two suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in two separate incidents. Both their vehicles were searched when members found a black revolver with 4x.38 rounds and a 9mm pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition, respectively.

These two suspects were detained and will make their respective first court appearances in the local magistrates’ court once charged with the possession of illicit firearms and ammunition.

Provincial management has lauded the members for their persistence and vigilance to rid our communities of illicit firearms and ammunition.
