An intelligence-driven operation executed by police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit who was deployed in the Samora Machel area to combat crime, resulted in the arrest of three suspects today.
The members pursued information and proceeded to an address on Leeubekkie Street. Upon arrival at the address, they searched the premises and found and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. Two males aged 24 and 27 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, the team conducted stop-and-search operations in Makwaza Village Informal Settlement, where they found an unknown male loitering around. They searched the man and a pistol with ammunition and arrested and detained the 22-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
