The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) in Gqeberha recovered two firearms within four hours after following up on information of illegal firearms in Missionvale and Swartkops respectively.
It is alleged that on Monday, 27 March 2023 at approximately 20:35, AGU members executed a search warrant at a house in Nova Street in Missionvale. During the search, the suspect attempted to flee by jumping over a wall at the back but was swiftly apprehended. A CZ 9mm pistol, one round of ammunition, one firearm magazine, cocaine and dagga were confiscated. The 29-year-old suspect was detained on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of drugs.
In the second incident, at about 00:15 this morning, AGU members once again searched a house in Old Grahamstown Road in Swartkops and when the results were negative, the members proceeded to the workshop on the same premises where they found a .22 browning firearm with ammunition and a magazine, tik, mandrax and dagga. No one was arrested and an inquiry docket was opened for further investigation.
The arrested suspect will appear at the New Brighton Magistrates’ court during the week.
