Limpopo Government commemorates Human Rights Day 2023

Limpopo Provincial Government led by Premier, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will join the rest of the country in commemoration of Human Rights Day 2023, on the 21 March 2023.

Human Rights Day is commemorated annually to remind South Africans of sacrifices by courageous man and women in the struggle for freedom. It is grounded on the Sharpeville massacre (21 March 1960) where 69 people were brutally killed during a peaceful protest. This year’s commemoration will be held under the theme: “Consolidating and Sustaining Human Rights Culture into the future.”

The South African government has declared March a Human Rights month. This is to heighten awareness in promotion of respect for human rights, restoration of human dignity and protection of life in accordance with the Bill of Rights, as enshrined in the constitution of the country.

“Let us remember that the rights and freedoms we are enjoying today did not come on a silver platter. They were literally attained through tears, sweat and blood. People paid the ultimate price for us to have these rights thus we cannot afford to take them for granted.” Mathabatha said.
