The Anti-Gang Unit Combat Team was doing foot patrols in Freedom Farm, between Stellenbosch Arterial and Robert Sobukwe Road on Thursday, 09 March 2023 when they accosted and searched a 44-year-old suspicious-looking male and confiscated a black CZ 7.65 pistol with magazine and ammunition found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested, and he will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court once he has been charged.
In an unrelated incident, Grassy Park police arrested two males aged 30 and 29 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the illegal discharging of a firearm. The members were busy with patrols in Parkwood this morning at around 00:10 when they heard gunshots. They saw a VW polo speed off and a high-speed chase ensued. The suspects stopped and one male fled with an object in his hands. Upon searching the man, members found a firearm in a black bag which led to the arrest of the three occupants.
Once charged, the suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s court.
Furthermore, on 08 March 2023 at 10:00, members attached to Worcester Anti-Gang Unit received information about a drug deal that would take place at a garage on the N1 road between a foreign national and a local drug dealer. Members immediately posted themselves strategically around the petrol station. At about 12:00 the same day, the foreign national was seen parking his vehicle, a silver Ford Fiesta in the parking area.
The members approached him and identified themselves as police officials. With permission, they searched his vehicle and found a brown bag that was under the driver’s seat. The brown bag contained six sachets of tik, weighing 310 grams. The members continued with the search and also found a plastic bag containing 200 full mandrax tablets under the gear lever of the vehicle.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Worcester Magistrates court on a charge of possession of drugs on Friday, 10 March 2023. The vehicle was also seized and booked as an exhibit.
