SAPS Eastern Cape State of Readiness for the Easter Weekend

With the Easter Weekend holidays approaching, SAPS management has assured the people of the Eastern Cape and tourists that safety and security measures have been put in place during this time.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered various units within the SAPS in the Province to ensure that there are sufficient deployments before and during Good Friday to ensure that there will be peace and stability over this period.

According to the plan, the Province will be flooded with police visibility, operational roadblocks and stop and searches in identified strategic points and hotspots in various towns and shopping malls. There will be coastal, boarder and highway patrols on all the national roads as part of the safety and security arrangements to ensure that all people travelling in and out of the Eastern Cape are and feel safe. SAPS will deploy senior managers in all the districts to monitor the operations that will be conducted as part of the Pre-Easter safety and security measures.

Lieutenant General Mene has warned communities to be vigilant during this time as criminal elements might be out there to take advantage of the people enjoying their Easter Holidays on the beaches and shopping malls. “I wish to call upon the parents to please look after the young children as they go for swimming in the pools and beaches.

Our communities and tourist should exercise extreme caution during their trips and make sure that they keep in touch with the nearest police station should they suspect danger and harm in their vicinity. Our police officers will be out there to provide assistance should such be needed.” Lieutenant General Mene said.

The Provincial Commissioner has wished all the people of the Eastern Cape and the tourists a safe and secure Easter Weekend.
