Suspects appear in court for possession of firearms and dagga

Members of Operation Restore, deployed in the Ocean View policing precinct to combat gang-related shootings, arrested two suspects aged 25 and 28 in two isolated incidents for the possession of unlicensed firearms in Masiphumelele on Tuesday evening.

The members were busy with stop-and-search operations in the area when they heard gunshots going off nearby. They proceeded in the direction from where the sound of gunfire came when they noticed a male running with a firearm in his hand. They gave chase and arrested the suspect who was found in possession of a 9mm pistol. The second suspect was arrested after the members received and responded to information of a firearm at premises in Kolobe Street where they ensued with a search. As a result of the search, a 9mm pistol was confiscated.

In addition to the above arrests, the same members searched premises in Mizar Crescent, Ocean View, and confiscated compressed dagga, bankies dagga, and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal drug trade. A 36-year-old man was arrested for the possession of dagga.

Once charged the suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court.
