A 2 year old boy was rescued by the community while he was being suffocated by his mother’s lifeless body in Amaotana – KZN a short while ago (Saturday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 12:13. On arrival, RUSA Members were led to an informal home where the lifeless body of a 29 year old female was discovered. According to neighbours, they heard the infant child crying for an extended period of time before they decided to investigate.
Members of the community gathered outside the residence and attempted to get the attention of the child’s mother. They forced their way into the house after failing to do so. They discovered the child being smoothed by his mother who was lying on top of him. The female and the child were covered in faeces. They immediately removed the boy from under his mother’s body. Residents informed Reaction Officers that the woman was last seen last night consuming alcohol with members of the community.
Circumstances leading up to her death could not be immediately established.
