Mossel Bay Fire Rescue and Disaster Management Services are the first in the Western Cape to have acquired the latest version of Lukas E3 eDraulic rescue equipment. The equipment, used during entrapments, is a major upgrade in terms of technology in comparison to the traditional older hydraulic rescue equipment. Jimmy Croucamp from FREMTAC Fire and
Rescue visited the fire station yesterday, 9 May where crew members were given practical training in using the equipment. The equipment includes a spreader, cutter and ram bar.
A vehicle wreck was used during the training session allowing crew members to put the equipment to the test. Among the exciting features are that the equipment is waterproof up to 3m and slat water compatible. The equipment is battery-operated with a backup electrical power battery supply. The e-spreader has a compact mini telescopic cylinder for working in confined spaces and a huge force for effective spreading The e-cutter has the capability to cut up to 32 inch rebar steel.
“This is the future, the latest technology and the way to go. You made a very good choice,” commented Croucamp during the presentation. He congratulated the Mossel Bay Municipality to acquiring this state-of-the-art equipment.
