Northern Cape detectives arrest 116 wanted suspects during tracing operations

Detective teams across the Northern Cape Province conducted tracing operations on Monday, 29 May 2023 from 16:00 until 22:00 in an effort to arrest wanted suspects who absconded or failed to appear in court.

The tracing operations were led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mmantsheke Lekhele who briefed a team of detectives at Galeshewe police station yesterday, prior to them executing their actions.

Detectives across the province executed the tracing actions simultaneously, targeting especially those who were charged for contact crimes and property related crimes.

In total 116 wanted suspects were arrested for an assortment of crimes including: assault common, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), attempted murder, robbery, theft and malicious damage to property.

The arrested suspects will be appearing in their respective Magistrate’s court soon.

Major General Lekhele indicated that perpetrators who fail to adhere to their bail conditions, will be tracked and brought before court, and no stone will be left unturned in bringing them to justice. She also reiterated that those who commit gender based violence will be dealt with harshly.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the detectives in the province for their remarkable and unrelenting efforts in bringing perpetrators before court.
