Crime prevention operation leads to discovery of firearms, ammunition and drugs

With the ongoing gang violence in the Delft policing precinct, members of Delft SAPS were busy with crime prevention duties in Delft to eradicate firearms and drugs.

On Tuesday, 6 June 2023 at approximately 23:00, members of Delft SAPS received information about a firearm at a premises in the Covid 19 new informal settlement, behind Tambotie Street, Delft South. This information was operationalized and the members found a shotgun with three rounds of ammunition. Four suspects, three males and one female, aged between 21 and 28 were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

At about 22:35, members of Delft Crime Prevention Unit received information about dealing in dagga at a house in Assegaai Street, Delft South. Upon acting on the information the members arrested a 37-year-old suspect for dealing in dagga, after a consignment of dagga, with an estimated street value of R3 500-00, was discovered. Various suspects were also arrested for possession of drugs, assaults; possession of dangerous weapons; damage to properties, contravention protection orders and a 36-year-old male on a charge of murder. Once charged all the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Bellville Magistrates court.

In an unrelated matter, Lentegeur detectives are investigating a possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of drugs case following the arrest of a 28-year-old man on 2006 June 2023 at about 16:00.

Members attached to Lentegeur SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, received and followed up information and noticed the suspect who then ran into a premises in Wolf Kibble Street, New Woodlands. They followed the suspect into the premises, where he threw the firearm and drugs on the floor. The suspect was apprehended and a 9mm pistol, mandrax and tik were confiscated. Once charged, the male will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court on the said charges.
