Intelligent driven information led police to a recovery of a vehicle stolen in 2021

Through information from Crime Intelligence structure of the Police in the province, members from National Intervention Unit (NIU) were led to the recovery of a vehicle which was stolen in 2021.

In the early hours of today (26 June 2023) the members followed information which led them to Bushbuckridge where they spotted a silver Mazda 323 Hatchback with two occupants inside. The vehicle was reportedly fitted with Gauteng registration number plates. The members then approached the vehicle with the intention to stop it, however the two occupants are said to have abandoned the car then fled on foot.

Whilst inspecting the vehicle, members discovered that this was the car that they were looking for after it was reported stolen in Tsakane in the Gauteng Province in 2021.

Police are still in pursuit of the suspects with a hope of bringing them book.

Meanwhile in the early hours of today (26 June 2023) members from Visible Policing in Bushbuckridge recovered another vehicle, a VW Polo at a place called Xanthia near Bushbuckridge. The recovery was made after Police received information about a vehicle believed to have been stolen. Further details indicated that this vehicle was only driven during night. Police approached the house however when people in the yard realized that the members were approaching, they reportedly fled the scene.

Investigation by the Police revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in OR Tambo International Airport during March 2023. Police are also still in pursuit of the suspects with an anticipation that they too will soon be brought to justice.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has thanked both community members for availing information and for the swift response by the police. Though suspects are still at large, police will continue to hunt them down so that they face the full might of the law. “We are really making an impact in fighting theft of motor vehicles. We encourage members of the public to continue in providing information and as always, we will act accordingly” said the General.
