Observant members attached to Operation Restore deployed in Gugulethu arrested two suspects, aged 29 and 34, for extortion and pointing of firearm.
On Sunday, 25 June 2023 at 17:35, the police members were busy with provincial intervention duties at Gugulethu policing precinct, when they spotted two suspicious looking males walking down the street at NY 108, Gugulethu. They stopped and searched them and confiscated a firearm with 30 rounds of ammunition. One of these males produced a firearm license and while the members were busy inspecting the firearm and license an unknown member of the community came running to the members and informed them, that they were pointed with a firearm by the same males and that they extorted money from them.
The members immediately arrested and detained the two suspects. An undisclosed amount of cash was also found on the suspects, who will make their court appearance once they have been charged.
