Water Meter/Copper Pipe Thief Nabbed: Ottawa – KZN

A suspect sought for the theft of water meters and copper pipes was arrested in Parkgate – KZN this morning (Monday).

A member of the Mountview Community Policing Forum (CPF) contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 10:32 requesting assistance to apprehend the habitual thief whom he managed to track to Parkgate – KZN. According to the caller, he was in possession of CCTV footage linking the suspect to thefts in Mountview – KZN.

Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and met with the complainant approximately 500 meters from where he spotted the suspect. Officers surrounded the area and approached the man who was immediately restrained.

During an interview, the suspect confirmed that he was responsible for several thefts in Mountview, Parkgate and Brindhaven. The stolen copper and brass is allegedly being sold to unregistered scrap metal dealers in Parkgate and Palmview – KZN. The habitual thief was previously arrested in Ottawa – KZN by Reaction Officers for theft. He allegedly served a one month sentence in Westville Prison for the crime.

The 21-year-old Heroine addict is currently detained at SAPS Verulam.
