Members of the Provincial Illegal Mining Task Team, National Unrest Deployment (Organize crime Unit) and Bokoni Protection Service have arrested two suspects aged 19 and 28 for illegal mining, during a disruptive operations, on Wednesday, 12 July 2023 at Zeekoegart (Atok ).
Allegedly, members received information and followed leads. They arrived at the said old shaft of Zeekoegart and managed to corner two suspects and arrested them for illegal mining and contravening the Immigration Act.
They seized the following items during the arrest:
– 5 x generators
– 9 x jackharmers
– 2 x piks
– 3 x electric extension.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has lauded the team for continuing arresting the illegal mining suspects and protecting the minerals of the Province.
They will soon appear before the Moroke Magistrate’s Court.
The Police investigations are still continuing.
