Police arrest a man for unlawfully keeping three firearms and ammunition without licenses

The Police in Standerton arrested a 39-years-old male suspect on charges of unlawfully keeping firearms as well as ammunition without having licences. The suspect was cornered in Standerton yesterday, Tuesday 25 July 2023.

According to information, members of the Police from Standerton Detectives received information about a man who was in possession of unlicensed firearms at a certain house at Meyerville in Standerton.

The information was followed by the men and women in Blue. Upon arrival at the premises, a search was conducted by the astute members. It was during this time that three firearms were discovered, a self-made pipe gun, a 9 mm pistol, and a Pump Action Shotgun with ammunition as well as other ammunition for a pistol.

The suspect was then arrested and charged accordingly. Part of the investigation will focus on establishing whether the seized firearms were not used previously in the commission of crime hence the weapons will undergo ballistic testing. Police at this stage cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspect as the investigation continues.

The suspect is due to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 26 July 2023 facing charges in relation to possession of unlicenced firearms with ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspect and appreciated the excellent work done by those who provided information to the Police whilst praising members for their swift response which resulted in the commendable achievement. “Our goal to remove unlawful and unlicenced firearms from the society is yielding positive results. We are glad that members of the public are playing a vital role in ensuring that this objective is achieved as it benefits everyone when crime is prevented,” emphasized the General.
