The vigilance of police officers in the Western Cape resulted in the recovery of firearms and ammunition as well as a consignment of presumed stolen property and cash on Monday 10 July 2023.
Atlantis police were busy with patrols when they responded to information and proceeded to Robinvale. Upon entering a residence in Jacoma Street, they found a man in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested and detained the 20-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile Delft police members continue to conduct stop and search crime combatting operations in their area. As the patrol vehicle entered Owen Madikane drive, the members noticed a Ford Ranger with an unusual registration number plate. When the patrol vehicle approached the vehicle, the driver sped off with police in pursuit. During the chase the suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. The police members apprehended the man and confiscated a firearm with ammunition that was found on his person. They arrested and detained the 48-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention police members attached to Maitland Flying Squad pursued information following the robbery of a retail store in Milnerton. The members proceeded to an identified address in Langa. When they approached the location, close to the taxi rank, they saw an unknown man who fled the scene. The police members entered the dwelling, searched the apartment and confiscated two 9mm pistols with ammunition, 27 mobile phones and a substantial amount of cash believed to have been taken during the robbery. The presumed stolen property was handed in as exhibits. Langa police registered an enquiry for further investigation.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis and Bellville Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
