The vigilance by members of the Maitland Flying Squad led to the arrest of four suspects between the ages of 25 and 48 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of an imitation firearm and presumed stolen property in Parow on Friday afternoon
The members were busy with patrols in the Parow area when they apotted a suspicious Toyota Hilux LDV and a Volkswagen Polo on the road. Police instinct took over and the members pulled the vehicles over after they called for backup. Upon searching the vehicles the members found a 9mm pistol without a serial number in the LDV and an imitation firearm in the Polo. The LDV was also confiscated because the engine number did not correspond with the vehicle’s official documents.
The suspects will appear in the Parow Magistrates court on Monday.
In an unrelated intervention members of Operation Restore received information about counterfeit money that is in circulation in the Mitchell’s Plain area and a premises was identified. Upon searching the premises the members found a substantial amount of two hundred rand notes as well as 69 mandrax tablets at the address in Rocklands. Two suspects aged 26 and 34 were arrested and detained for the possession of mandrax and the possession of counterfeit money.
Furthermore the members searched another premises in Rocklands where they arrested a 30-year-old male when they found 30 bankies dagga in the house. The suspects will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates court tomorrow.
