A 31-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested and goods stolen during a break-in from business premises in Redcliffe – KZN was recovered by Reaction Officers today (Monday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a tip-off at approximately 12:14 that a man was attempting to sell a gas cylinder used in forklifts on Moss Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN.
Reaction Officers referenced crime statistics gathered over the weekend and established that several cylinders and boxes of biscuits were stolen from business premises on Quarry Road in Redcliffe – KZN during the early parts of yesterday morning (Sunday).
RUSA Members proceeded to the suspect’s location and apprehended him. During an interview, he confirmed that several other stolen goods were concealed in a bush on Hazelmere Drive near Mhlasini – KZN. Reaction Officers proceeded to the location with the suspect and recovered two additional gas cylinders. Several empty boxes that contained the stolen biscuits were recovered in the vicinity. CCTV footage of the incident also placed the suspect at the scene of the crime. The man is also an undocumented foreign national.
He was placed under arrest and detained at SAPS Verulam.
