Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers attended to a complaint of an attempted illegal land invasion, in the Cloverdene area.
Officers received a complaint reported to the control room about a tractor-loader backhoe (TLB) construction vehicle cleaning the area opposite the Cloverdene complex entrance. Upon arrival, officers found the construction vehicle clearing the open area at the Cloverdene and Mediterranean Road intersection, and upon interviewing the driver of the vehicle, it is alleged that a private agreement was made with the street vendors who are doing business daily on the premises.
Officers immediately stopped the process and removed all newly settled traders from the premises. It is alleged that the construction vehicle was initially working on an illegal dumping site 500m away from the prohibited land area occupied by street vendors.
The EMPD commends the officers for their actions and encourages vendors to visit the Department of Economic Development for assistance to help them trade legally at a designated space that is not in contravention of the law.
