An intelligence driven operation led by police members of the Anti-Gang Unit yielded excellent results when they arrested four suspects on charges of murder and attempted murder and the confiscation of firearms and ammunition.
Anti-Gang Unit police members deployed in Hanover Park to quell the ongoing gang violence gathered information pertaining to persons of interest in criminal activities. On Thursday 10 August 2023 the platoon proceeded to an identified address in Oribi Court, notorious for gang violence, and searched the premises. They arrested and detained a 33-year-old man when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In the same dwelling they arrested and detained two males aged 30 and 49 on a charge of murder.
The members responded to information and pounced on address in Algulhas Court, Hanover Park in the early hours of Friday 11 August 2023. Upon entering the residence, they noticed two males aged 17 and 20 who were known persons of interest. They continued to arrest the two suspects on charges of murder and attempted murder. The members searched the occupants and confiscated a 357 Magnum revolver. They arrested and detained a 14-year-old male on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.
