Intricate investigation into illegal activities at a known drug outlet in Beaufort West and the culmination of several clandestine operations conducted over a period of time at the premises, ensured that a highflyer remain behind bars. The 45-year-old man made his first court appearance in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, 02 August 2023.
This combined efforts by members attached to Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (narcotic section), Central Karoo K9 and Provincial Crime Combatting Teamv(POCC) led to the take-down on Monday, 31 July 2023. These forces, armed with a search warrant, descended on the premises at Ralwin Street, Essopville, Beaufort West and ensued with a search. Police confiscated 498 mandrax tablets, 20g tik and 4 units of cocaine during the operation. A further search led to the discovery of R9 250-00 in cash and three 9mm rounds in a magazine which were seized.
The take down operation concluded after several operations conducted at the premises since 22 December 2022. A total of 1897 mandrax tablets, 70 kilogram of tik, 39 units of cocaine and 2 E-bicycles were confiscated during this period, in addition to the drugs confiscated this week. The vehicle of the accused, a Toyota Auris, was also seized.
The accused, Shaun Booysen(45), was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to 08 August 2023 for a formal bail application. He is facing charges of dealing drugs, possession of suspected stolen property and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
This is an ongoing police investigation. More charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
Western Cape police management commended the efforts of those involved in the take down operation that was well-executed. This operation will go a long way to safeguard communities from the vicious effect of substance abuse in rural communities. These type of operations are in line with provincial policing strategy, CEPPAT, which aims to close down illegal drug outlets.
