Mob justice for robbery suspect in Grangetown

A robbery suspect sustained multiple injuries after he was assaulted by students and the community in Grangetown – KZN.

A grade 8 pupil approached a parent parked outside his school requesting assistance after a lone suspect robbed him at knife point of his school shoes and backpack while he was walking to his residence in Mhlasini – KZN. The man rallied support from the community and other students before they pursued & apprehended the robber.

The victim’s belongings and the knife used in the robbery were recovered in his possession. The mob began beating the robber with sticks and bottles.

A passerby who witnessed the assault in progress contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance at approximately 15:42. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the 23 year old suspect bleeding from an injury to his head. He also sustained blunt force trauma to his hands and legs.

The mob dispersed prior to the arrival of First Responders.

The suspect was released after the complainant and his guardians declined to register a criminal case.]
