Motorists are advised that certain roads in the Sandton CBD will be affected due to the BRICS Summit taking place this week at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The following roads will be affected from Sunday, 20 August 2023 until Thursday, 24 August 2023.
Road closures will be implemented at:
Maude Street – will be converted into one-way traffic from 5th Street to West Street.
West Street – the lanes closest to the Convention Centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be dual carriage open for traffic.
Alice Lane – the lanes closest to the Convention Centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be dual carriage open for traffic.
5th Street – lanes closest to the Convention Centre will be closed. The lanes furthest away will be a dual carriage open for traffic.
Motorists are advised to be aware of traffic disruptions expected at Rivonia Road and Melville Road and at Melville Road and Helling Road, Illovo, Sandton, on 20 August 2023 and 21 August 2023 where Heads of States will be attending the Heads of States Retreat at Summer Place Conference Venue.
Motorists are also advised to be aware of traffic disruptions expected on Richards Drive, Halfway House, Midrand, on 23 August 2023 where Heads of States will be attending a banquet at the Gallagher Convention Centre.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers will be deployed around the Sandton Convention Centre, Summer Place Conference Venue, and the Gallagher Convention Centre implementing road closures and assisting with traffic control at congested intersections.
Officers will also form part of the safety and security contingent which will be present around the Sandton CBD for the duration of the summit.
Members of the public are requested to be aware of the affected roads during the summit and to plan their routes accordingly when traveling around the Sandton CBD.
