Suspect arrested for illegal possession of explosives

Police’s speedy response to a tip-off paid off when a 33 year old suspect was nabbed with explosives at Hlapetsa, Dientjie yesterday morning, Friday 04 August 2023.

After receiving information, police kept a close surveillance on the suspect whilst strategising the execution plan.

Police stormed the suspect’s RDP family house at about 03:30. The suspect refused to let police in, but ways and means were devised to gain entry.

The suspect was found in his bedroom where four detonators and one detonating cord were concealed.

The suspect could not produce a permit to possess the explosives hence he was arrested for contravening the Explosives Act and is expected to appear in Graskop Magistrate’s Court on Monday 07 August 2023.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela commended the community member who raised an alarm. “In the province we experience a number of ATMs and drop safes bombings, CITs and illegal mining where detonators are used, we will make sure that our investigation uncovers the suspect’s mission and his partners,” said the General.
