Three male suspects who are allegedly wanted and linked to armed robberies in and around the Wanderers Taxi Rank and Park Station were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Integrated Intelligence Operations Centre (IIOC) Undercover Reaction Unit for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Braamfontein.
On Saturday, 19 August 2023, officers were strategically deployed around the Wanderers Taxi Rank due to the high rise of armed robberies in the area. The officers together with the IIOC camera monitoring team observed the suspicious behavior of a male who was in possession of a firearm and had just entered a building at Wolmarans Street.
The officers quickly entered the building pursuing the male who was found in a room with two additional males. All three males were searched and three unlicensed firearms were found in their possession with one of the firearms having its serial number filed off.
The trio was arrested and detained at Hillbrow SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation.
