As part of the ongoing effort in asserting the authority of the State, on Saturday 9 September 2023, during Operation Shanela in Vanderbijlpark – Sedibeng district, Detectives from Provincial Office managed to take in four suspects for questioning on suspicion of hijacking buildings.
A further six individuals were arrested for being in the country illegally, while two minors were taken in by members from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The children, girls aged 12 and 14 were found by themselves in the buildings that were in a terrible state.
Investigations are underway to determine the rental beneficiaries and their link to the hijacked buildings.
