Four suspects arrested for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances

On Sunday 24 September 2023 between 11:00 and 12:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Officers, intercepted four (4) male suspects for possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, in the Putfontein area.

With the DEU Officers continuing to roll out high visibility operations, aimed at cracking down on drug syndicates throughout the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), the Officers led a successful operation where four (4) male suspects who are 21, 25, 27 and 51-years of age, were arrested for various drug charges. Partnering with concerned community members, Officers received information about individuals selling illicit substances to the youth, within the community. A 51-year-old male suspect, found in possession of five (5) units of mandrax tablets, valued at one thousand two hundred and fifty Rands (R1250), was cornered and handcuffed, at Mayfield Extension 9.

Meanwhile, a 25-year old male suspect, was picked-up, at Mayfield Extension 6 after he was found in possession of five (5) ziplock packets of crystal meth, three (3) units mandrax tablets and one (1) quarter mandrax tablet, valued at one thousand Rands (R1000). Furthermore, at Zwakala informal settlement in Mayfield area, Officers intercepted two (2) male suspects who are 21 and 27-years of age, found in possession of eleven (11) units mandrax tablets and seven (7) units of rocks, valued at one thousand Rands (R1000).

The handcuffed foursome, facing charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances, was marched to Putfontein police station and are expected, to appear in the Putfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
