Police Task Team pounce illegal miners while underground at Malipsdrft in Capricorn District

The Police at Malipsdrift in Capricorn District have arrested two male suspects aged 25 and 26 for conducting illegal mining activities and the contravention of immigration act at Zoekoegat farm on Wednesday 30 August 2023.

It is reported that members of the Capricorn District Anti-Illegal Mining Task Team and Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit with the Public Order Policing in their tour of a disruptive operation have pounced on Illegal miners while underground on Wednesday 30 August 2023 approximately at about 10:30 in the morning at Zoekoegat farm next to Ga-Mathabatha outside Lebowakgomo.

Upon realizing the arrival of the Police on site, the suspects fled the scene on foot evading arrest, however, the two male suspects were nabbed.

Police confiscated equipment recovered from the illegal mining site that included 1× jackhammer, 1× power generator, 1× water pressure pump, 1x hand-pick, 1x chisel and 2× Shovels.

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the teams involved for their collaborative efforts in ridding the Province of illegal mining activities

The suspects are expected to appear before Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Friday 01 September 2023.
