An integrated operation against the possession and distribution of counterfeit goods by Designated Police Officers, Crime Prevention Units and Counterfeit Unit in the Gugulethu area led to the arrest of an adult male for possession of an unlicensed firearm, imitation firearm and ammunition.
On 12 September 2023 the members on duty received information about a suspect who had an illegal firearm stored at his shop in NY111, Kanana Informal Settlement, Gugulethu. Members immediately operationalised the information, searched the shop and found a firearm, an imitation firearm and ammunition in the shop. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on the mentioned charges, soon.
In an unrelated matter, the outcome of stop and search operations proved to be effective when members of Operation Restore accosted a 38-year-old male in Botterblom Street, Delft, who was found in possession of 30 gram tik valued R7500.00. The suspect was detained at Delft SAPS and once charged, will make his appearance in Bellville Magistrates’ court.
On Tuesday, 12 September 2023 at around 20:30 police members attached to Operation Restore were deployed within the Khayelitsha, Lingelethu West Policing precinct, busy with high density stop and search operations in Spine Road when their attention were drawn to a male who acted suspiciously by changing direction in an effort to evade the members. A chase ensued on foot and the suspect was apprehended. The suspect was searched and found in possession of six units of heroin. He was immediately arrested and detained at Harare SAPS on a charge of possession of drugs. The exhibit was booked in as evidence for safekeeping and further investigation.
Once charged he will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
