23-Year-old arrested for theft of firearm in Amoutana

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Amoutana – KZN by Reaction Officers for the theft of his uncle’s firearm.
The complainant contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) requesting assistance to arrest his sister’s son.

The man informed Reaction Officers that on Saturday (25/09/2023), his nephew visited him at his home in Redcliffe – KZN. During the visit, his nephew disarmed him and fled with his 9mm Glock 17 with 16 rounds of ammunition.

His uncle registered a criminal case (443/09/2023) at the Verulam SAPS but the suspect has since been evading Law Enforcement. Today (Wednesday), the victim contacted RUSA after he received information that his nephew was hiding at a residence in Amoutana. – KZN.

Reaction Officers contacted the Police Detective investigating the matter. He confirmed that the suspect was sought for detention. RUSA Members immediately mobilised to the accused’s location. A resident directed Reaction Officers into the residence where the suspect was discovered sleeping in one of the bedrooms. He was immediately restrained.

During an interview, he confirmed that he sold the stolen firearm to an unknown male in Waterloo – KZN for R3000.

He was thereafter detained at SAPS Verulam.
