A hostile taxi driver was nabbed for assaulting a Metro Police Officer in full uniform in Thembisa

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Thembisa Precinct Officers, arrested a 31-year old male suspect, for assaulting an on-duty EMPD Officer in full uniform, in the Thembisa area.

During the crime prevention operation in Difateng section, Officers drove into a white Toyota Quantum minibus taxi, causing an obstruction on Sparrow Road next to a tavern, with four (4) male passengers. The passengers, failed to give a sound answer when asked about the driver, and as Officers were about to impound the taxi, a hostile man claiming to be the driver, came running towards Officers, calling them all sorts of names.

Meanwhile, the passengers in the minibus decided to evacuate, leaving behind the semi-wild and violent driver, who started assaulting an Officer, trying to drive the vehicle away.

The EMPD Officers acted immediately, and the suspect facing charges of common assault, crimen injuria, resisting arrest and causing obstruction, was restrained and taken to the Thembisa South police station. He is expected to appear in Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon and the minibus taxi, is kept at the EMPD Thembisa Precinct.
